Christie Rudis, 37, said it was a “sobering” conversation with her primary care doctor several years that made her realize she needed to make a bigger change. The doctor told Christie, who weighed in excess of 450 pounds at the time, that the chances of seeing her 35th birthday were low if she didn’t do something about her weight. Christie told Channel 12’s Alexandra Leslie, despite what people say, surgery is not taking the easy way out.
“That’s absolutely the biggest lie about surgery that there is,” she said. “What comes along with the surgery is years of making the right decisions, the right choices every single day. It’s dedicating yourself to a healthier, improved lifestyle. And if somebody was really thinking about going through bariatric surgery, I would tell them that they need to be ready to overhaul their lifestyle.”
