As a two-time All-State Classical High School basketball player and current Central High School coach, Mike Reed is used to being active.
But in May 2007, he started experiencing symptoms that were only getting worse. Mike was in kidney failure and, due to cancer, had to have both kidneys removed.
When David O’Connor, a referee Mike once worked with at Providence College, learned Mike needed a new kidney, he stepped up to become a living donor.
Channel 10’s Mario Hilario recently featured Mike and his surgeon, Brown Surgical Associates’ Dr. Paul Morrissey, in a piece for Rhode Island Hospital’s Day of Caring.
