Looking to build on its successful inaugural event which raised $35,000 for breast cancer research in the state, Paddle for Progress Rhode Island hosted its 2nd Annual Fun Paddle last month, with more than 100 people showing up to help turn Wickford Harbor pink.
Brown Surgical Associates’ Dr. Theresa Graves and Lifespan’s Dr. Stephanie Graff were among the dozens who took the water in kayaks, canoes, scups, and paddle boards to participate in the gentle two-mile paddle.
The event has already raised 50% more than last year, and donations are still being accepted at onecause.com.
Paddle for Progress was founded by Deb Shapiro and her daughter, Daryl. The mother-daughter duo both survived breast cancer after being diagnosed within 100 days of each other. In the below video, Drs. Graves and Graff–who treated both women at Lifespan’s Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic–explain what makes the event so special.
